How can I find out about projects with BTG?
- There are two ways you will find out about projects with BTG. Our Client Service team will email you directly via First Look® and you can view and apply for projects from the Talent Portal. Apply by answering a few questions about your relevant background experience to be considered.
- You can view and apply for projects with BTG from the Talent Portal. Click the “Projects” tab to browse current opportunities and apply for the ones that fit your background.
- Whether you apply via email or from the Talent Portal, our Client Service specialists will personally review your responses and your profile to evaluate whether there is a mutual fit for the project. If there is a good fit, a member of the Client Service team will reach out to you directly to discuss further.
- When you apply for a project opportunity (either through the “Projects” tab or one you received via email), it is important provide detailed and specific examples of your experience that are relevant to that project, versus a general summary of your background.
- The more specific your responses, the better.
- We use your both your BTG talent profile and your First Look responses to evaluate your availability, location, skills and preferences and rate. See below for more information about selecting a rate.
- A complete and detailed talent profile increases our ability to accurately match you with the right opportunities. Read our tips for writing an effective BTG profile and executive summary to ensure your profile shines. Don’t forget to include your daily rate! Remember to update your profile regularly to highlight new skills, certifications, project experiences, preferences, and availability.
Who sees my responses?
- Clients do not see your First Look responses—the responses are kept internal to BTG.
- When you apply for a project, the Client Service team will review your responses. Typically, you will hear whether or not you have been selected to move to the next step within a week of submitting your application.
When will I hear back about a project?
- The response time depends on several factors including the number of applications, turnaround time for the project, and the client’s schedule. You can also check the status of your application by clicking “Applications” on the left-hand side of the Projects tab.
- Our projects are based on client demand, so we can’t always predict when a project will arise that fits your profile. We have some consultants in our Talent network that are called immediately upon joining and others that wait for several months. We encourage all consultants to consider BTG as one resource for sourcing projects.
What kinds of projects does BTG do?
- BTG delivers independent professionals, either individually or in teams, for mission-critical and strategically important projects at 50% of Fortune 100 companies, plus other top global corporations, private equity firms, and non-profits around the world. We serve projects across industries, functions, and skills.
- BTG projects are robust. The average is 3 months in length, but many of our projects extend. Considerations like travel, remote work, and full-or part-time requirements vary project by project. You can indicate your preferences for these areas on your profile and update them at any time.
- Check out our Case Study Library to learn more about the types of projects BTG serves.
How do I pick a daily rate?
- Our Client Service team is constantly tracking rates in the industry and advise Talent on their rates for project on a project-by-project basis. The rate you quote for one project maybe different for another project depending on the length of the engagement and other factors.
- You will take home your daily rate for the project. BTG does not take a percentage and your daily rate is not affected by BTG’s agreement with the Client.
- You are not locked into the same rate for every project—your rate is assessed on a project-by-project basis. You are welcome to use the additional rate details in your application field to note your preferred rate, or any other context you would like to share.
- We recommend providing the minimum rate that you would consider accepting for the engagement.
- The Client Service team overseeing the project will negotiate for the best rate possible, however it is helpful to know what a consultant’s “walk-away” rate is as we take into consideration both the consultant’s experience and the client’s budget when assessing fit for a project.
- When considering your rate, it’s important to factor in the project length and complexity.
Do I need to form a legal entity to work on BTG Projects?
- Most Business Talent Group (BTG) projects require that you have a legal entity and most successful independent consultants choose to operate under one.
- When you apply for a BTG project through First Look® or from the Projects tab, you will see whether a project requires contracting through a legal entity. You will also be asked to provide or confirm your legal entity information for projects when a legal entity is required.
- If you want to best position yourself for all relevant opportunities with BTG clients, we highly recommend creating a legal entity that best suits your business needs.
- Check out our guide on how to create a legal entity.
Why do you ask for work authorization? Does BTG sponsor visas?
- BTG asks for information on any work authorization you hold to ensure that you are legally authorized to work in a given country or countries.
- BTG does not sponsor visas or provide support in obtaining work authorization.
